About the Lester B. Pearson Scholarship
The Lester B. Pearson International Scholarship at the University of Toronto is a highly competitive award intended to recognize outstanding international students who demonstrate strong academic achievement, creativity and leadership within their school or community. Nigerian students may be eligible to be considered, but applicants must satisfy the university’s requirements and nomination process.
What does the scholarship cover?
The Lester B. Pearson Scholarship is generally described by the University of Toronto as covering tuition, books, incidental fees and full residence support for four years of undergraduate study. The precise terms are set by the university. Applicants should read the official scholarship page carefully and should not assume that a separate monthly cash stipend is included unless the university confirms it.
Who can apply?
- You must be an international student, including a Nigerian student studying in a school outside Canada, who requires a study permit to study in Canada.
- You must be in your final year of secondary school or have graduated no earlier than the eligibility window specified by the university.
- You must be applying to begin an eligible first-entry undergraduate programme at the University of Toronto.
- You must be nominated by your school. Schools that have not nominated a student before may need to request nomination access from the university.
This award is for undergraduate study; it is not a general postgraduate, Master’s or PhD scholarship. Selection is highly competitive and is not guaranteed for all countries or applicants.
Important deadlines for the 2027 entry
The date November 6, 2026 has been circulated as a scholarship-related deadline, but applicants should verify the exact 2027 dates on the University of Toronto’s official page. The Pearson process has separate school nomination, university admission application and scholarship application deadlines. These deadlines may differ, and missing one can make an applicant ineligible.
